11 weeks and X-ray shy

I've always wished I could be 'that' girl that can hide her pregnancy until the 20-week ultrasound then go around breaking the news with, "I'm pregnant and it's a...", but alas, I am NOT one of those girls, being blessed with a short torso and abdominal muscles the equivalent of silly putty the second my growing womb wants to declare itself is not long after I find out myself that said womb is carrying our next child...the guts get pushed northward and I spend the greater part of the first trimester with a wanna-be baby bump that  is way too high AND a muffin top.  Not cute.
Self-conscious thoughts aside, I am blessed to work in a profession where you can wear forgiving and somewhat concealing scrubs...so you can get away with holding off the announcement for a little while (even myself), except for the small fact that in the same profession we also get to work around a lot of X-rays--not conducive to growing a baby.  So the second you sneak off to the farthest corner of pod 1 to get away from the radiation you get knowing looks from your co-workers.  Your scrubs can no longer 'cover' for you, your secret is out, you are pregnant.
This last week kept presenting itself with opportunities for me to 'share' my news, because I had to get away from my baby's bedside while they shot a film.  The best was being trapped in the back of resuscitation because the warmer we were using was right by the door and the X-ray machine blocked the exit...I shied into the corner and then asked for the lead apron as everyone looked at me and asked, 'Why? Are you pregnant?'...ummm, yes, yes I am, all the while beat-red from being the center of attention.

Not that I would be able to 'hide' it long anyway, my faux baby bump is not shy right now ;)

I am starting to get a little excited about this little one...Debbie found me the most awesome shirt for Halloween:

ummm, I'm pregnant?!

I guess it is okay to finally 'spill the beans'...I have wanted another little one for a long time, but nothing was happening, not for lack of trying ;), but it was starting to feel like, 'okay, I guess I have my answer...we are done', and there is nothing short of fertility treatments that can change that.  Well I was wrong!
A week before we went out for our early anniversary celebration I must have been cranky because I remember Scott saying, "give it a week I know what it is coming"...he thought I was pre-mentrual and I just rolled my eyes (at least he was observant, right?)  Well I should have had a monthly visitor that weekend, but didn't--I was not freaked out, yet, I had had longer cycles before, but I knew my MRI and Tysabri was coming up.  Well I went in for my MRI, consciously checking the box "not pregnant" and two days later sat down for my hour & half infusion secretly wondering if I was pregnant.  [P.S. my MRI is good, no new lesions!]
As each day passed with nothing, I was starting to wonder.  I waited till the 'longest cycle' time period had passed before I got a prego test, the day came but then I worked all weekend and thought there is no use, I will just wait till I get off early Monday morning...so after getting in my car at 3:30 in the morning I ended up at the Neighborhood Walmart, only to find the specified aisle covered in plastic due to remodeling, really?!  I drove to the next store and bought the test along with a king-size Whatchamacallit, which was quickly devoured on my way home.  Test taken, I waited the requisite 3 minutes and then 'ta da' two lines = pregnant!  I climbed in bed and succumbed to much-needed sleep.  When I woke up I was still in shock, ended up calling Debbie and telling her, because I had to tell someone (you wonder why my husband was not the first?  He was applying for jobs and hadn't heard yet if he got a 2nd interview, I didn't want to stress him out with another baby coming, so I told Debbie).  Scott came home for lunch and was very excited to tell me he had heard that he got a 2nd interview, I knew I could tell him, I had taken a picture of the positive test and tried unsuccessfully to text it to him as we sat in the same room and finally just stood up and showed him...he stared at it a moment then looked at me and asked, "really?!" then he grabbed me and hugged me telling me how happy he was.  *whew*...not that I thought he would be mad, I guess I didn't know what to expect from him, and perhaps because I wasn't sure how I felt about it yet.
We waited a week and then Scott couldn't hold it back from the boys any longer and wanted to tell them, so I made them play 'Hangman'...[Mommy's going to have a baby]...they got stuck with the only letter missing "m", and even when it was finally guessed Jorden read it and they all just sat there a minute while we tried to coax out their reaction to the news.  I think they are excited, and since 'there is an app for that' I have one that shows what the baby looks like week-to-week, since it is very tadpole-esque at this point I am not sure it is quite real to them, except for the fact that mom has been sleeping like a hibernating bear.
I had my first prenatal visit with Dr. Farley: blood drawn, pee in cup and ultrasound for dates and we are expecting another 'Messel' on April 9, 2013!
It will be a boy until proven otherwise...
So if I look tired, I may have worked the night before, or not, I am just always tired!   Thanks for being understanding!

Now Garrett can be a 'Big Brother'
