CITATION what???!!!!

I am sitting here, half in shock, half dead-tired and wanting to run back up stairs to eat another Little Debbie Nutty Bar...I just got my first speeding ticket, my eyes are still burning from the bright, flashing lights that are aimed perfectly at both my rear-view and side mirrors. I was tagged for going 66 in a 55....Lame!
Driving home from work, I passed a state trooper parked in the median with it's lights off, admittedly I was going about 15 over, uphill, but let off the gas and kept going, eyes glued to the rear-view mirror, with a 'whew' sigh of relief that I just dodged a ticket I probably should have received...when a mere 20 seconds later, a Mister Layton City Policeman is walking up to my passenger window and tapping on the glass of the passenger door--while I have my driver's side window open and looking back over my left shoulder.
No, I didn't cry, but handed over my license, registration and proof of insurance (thank heaven I put the new cards). He was nice, noticed my scrubs and asked if I was going to work, I said no, coming home, he asked where, I said McKay and then he left for what seemed like an eternity...

...oh the thoughts that pass through one's mind as your history is being searched in the ominous car behind you:

*the flashy lights are bright
*I am glad I have my seat belt on
*I wish I were those cars passing by, rubber-necking at the poor sucker that just got pulled-over
*dinner, dinner, what are we having for dinner tonight
*crap, my first ticket, this will certainly fuel Scott on so many levels...
*I hope that ticket I got in high school while snowmobiling doesn't show up...
*I am glad my kids aren't with me
*my windshield is filthy
*is he ever coming back?
*perhaps I will just get a warning
*damn blinky lights
*I would be home by now, brushing my teeth to get ready to go to bed
*Things to do after you turn 30, get your first speeding ticket
*I need to renew my license in May, I hope I don't have to get a new picture, the one I have is actually cute
*hmmmmmm, this is taking forever
*there is a plane landing, I wish I were flying somewhere
*This is going on the blog
*I am glad I didn't get pulled over GOING to work I would have been late
*Here he comes, wait a minute, why are there 2 cops, crap they found the old snowmobiling ticket
*Oh man, I AM getting a "citation", but wait he is doing me a favor by knocking it down to 9 miles over, what am I supposed to say, 'thank you'? pshah...

eehhh?

Cameron is on the left and Jorden is on the right...if you know my boys this makes perfect sense ;)

Seattle or bust

We spent spring break on a mucho-anticipated vacation to Washington to see Grandma & Grandpa Messel...it was awesome. We were able to create memories and get to know their new home in Edmonds, they live a short 2 blocks from the beach on Puget Sound.
The anxiety preceding any trip can be monumental--did I pay all the bills? Did I adjust the thermostat? Did I leave the porch light on? Did I lock the doors and did I remember to pack undee-wear for the boys? Oh the thoughts that crowd my head as I attempt to neatly arrange our week's worth of clothing and accessories for our get-away.
We left Salt Lake with snow and wind beating our three suitcases and three car seats, our stroller and one large carry-0n. We were able to convince a shuttle bus driver to wait for us as we piled on and then had some unsuspecting stranger help us throw bags and car seats out the door as our terminal approached.
The mini etch-a-sketches were a hit and I have a profound respect for all my cute friends who have braved long flights (some trans-continental) and lay-overs with transfers...I seriously don't know how you did it! Our measly 1 hour and 45 minute flight was good, but the pressure change on our landing made Cameron [and every other young child too stubborn to 'just put the gum in your mouth'] scream. But we landed safely and met Grandpa & Grandma and headed for Edmonds.
The weather was amazing, Sunday was gorgeous: in the 60's and sunny. We headed for the beach--we gazed around at happy people enjoying their Sabbath, knowing this is what 'other' families do while we sit in 3-hour meetings, I know I will be struck down soon enough. That Sunday Garrett got his first taste of the beach, literally.
We had the ultimate accommodations at Scott's parent's condo and besides walking from their building to restaurants and shops and the beach, we were able to go into downtown Seattle and be tourists: we saw Pike's Place, the Seattle Aquarium, The Space Needle, the Seattle Temple and took the ferry to Kingston. The boys had a lot of fun playing with Lego's and fisher price and the Nintendo DS's. Mister Bunny came and borrowed a few of Grandma's buckets to leave surprises for us. We ate way too many treats, but also walked a lot and found pretty beach glass and some treasures in the cute shops.
It was so nice and while we immensely enjoyed coming back to sleep in our bed (hide-a-beds are just not that comfortable in your 30's) we miss Grandma & Grandpa!
