So we have decided the little gems our children come up with are too funny to forget, so you all get to read them...here are July's goodies (please note this is not even half of it, we only recently had the light bulb go off on this idea).
Cameron: "I have a crack in my bum."
Scott: "My finger hurts."
Cameron: "Did a bee bite your finger Daddy, did a bee bite it?"
Cameron: "Daddy, put your ear in my mouth."
Scott: "Okay."
Cameron: "Hulllllo in there!"
So Cam got out all of the stuffed animals, he picks up a little monkey and says, "he has a tail mommy; I have a tail."
Me: "Where is your tail?"
Cameron: "Right here." (pointing to the front...) ;)

Shark Week

dun, dun...

dun, da, dun....
It is Shark Week (click here) on Discovery Channel. I love this week, I am terrified of sharks but love learning about them. When I was little I would get out the "S" volume from the encyclopedia (that sure dates me) and read about sharks...I have a 'shark week' buddy in Debbie and Jorden, we all get giddy at this time of year, nerdy? yes, do we care? no!

Last weekend...
So let me tell you about our weekend. Friday Jorden and I went swimming at our friend, Shannon's mom's house, (nice to have connections, not nice to get a sunburn--hello, I am 30 and should know better by know!) then we all went to Provo and slept-over, well we stayed overnight and the boys slept but arrrgggh, my parents turn off the precious thing called central air at night, it was unbearably hot and hence no sleep for the weary. But we were able to see Tom, Andrea and their cute boys AND my family AND eat at Brick Oven (mmmmm), AND Scott got to see Dark Knight, again.
The next morning we grabbed Krispy Kreme and chocolate milk and headed to the Biles' for Duncan's baptism--I can't believe the kid is 8 years old. It was really neat and great to see everyone. We hung out at their beautiful house after and the boys had fun playing with their cousins. I kept hearing what a gem Garrett is and that he didn't cry at all when they were down for the 24th.

After the baptism we realized we forgot several things at my mom's and had to go back to Provo, so while we were down there we headed to Lon's Cookin' Shak and had some yummy barbecue, picked up our belongings...Scott took the boys swimming, which lasted about 20 minutes until a wasp decided it didn't like being removed from the noodle and stung Scott on his pinky finger *ouch*. This made our daddy very irritable and we promptly packed then headed home. Sunday was nice, except for Cameron's tantrums and strong-willed stubbornness coming out in Sacrament meeting--he tackled Jorden into the aisle because he wanted the markers, 'aye ca rumba'...these boys :) So that was our weekend in a nutshell...
The "24th"
So last Thursday was Pioneer Day, or in Scott's family lovingly referred to as "the 24th". When we got married it worked out great for balancing family get-togethers because my family did stuff on the 4th of July and Scott's family took the 24th. Well this year I had to work, bummer, but Scott went down to Fairview with all three boys and represented the 'messel's'. They had so much fun, it is always the same, Scott's family has been doing this since he took his first steps and his cousin was commenting on the fact that pictures from year to year are exactly the same just the kids look a little different.

To give you a mental picture of Fairview, Utah on the "24th" you have to know what goes on. Early in the morning, at about 6 AM, the fire department finds it necessary to make sure everyone and everyone's dog is awake by driving up and down the streets blaring their sirens and setting off explosives at intersections--which the Fairview House happens to sit at, a little oxy-moron-ish, yes. That makes for a cheery beginning (note the excitement in my tone, can you tell I am NOT a morning person). There is the "P-rade", you go to Uncle Vaughn's house and sit on the lawn (quite exclusive seating due to the Main Street location) first you see the children's parade where anyone can ride a bike down the route, next you get into the actual "entertainment", the rodeo princesses and other small town royalty including the Moroni Feed Co., the mayor, the North Sanpete High School cheerleaders, the fire trucks, and last but not least the derby cars, which I might add get the most applause and hype (you can almost see the bets going on across the street). The best part is the fact that this is still a "small town" parade and they throw candy and the occasional t-shirt (which this year Jorden fought for and won). It is stinking hot, but you love it anyway. They had a BBQ and then later had brisket prepared by Scott's cousin-in-law, I have heard, and am jealous, about how delicious it was. They played in the huge yard at the Fairview House and had rides on the ATV and chatting on the patio. The boys didn't get home until 11:30 but it was a fun day for them. I can't wait until I can go next year!

WALL-E
You guys have to click on "videos" and then see the trailer and vignettes--the 'vacuum', 'hula hoop' and 'magnet' ones were absolutely hilarious!

Our "mini" Salt Lake Vacation
So last Friday I was feeling a little impulsive or perhaps desperate to do something fun, I had a rare Friday off work and since we aren't going anywhere this summer I wanted to "make some memories" and have some fun family time...We decided to go Downtown and have a mini vacation...
We got to Gateway and purchased our tickets to see "Wall-e", next we decided to get some lunch, our tummies were a bit rumbly. We first tried California Pizza Kitchen but the close confines and the stroller barricade in the 'front foyer' scared us off so we went to
--quite delicious with ample room.
We next manuevered our way to Discovery Gateway, the children's museum situated right in the middle of cool shopping, and bought a membership (thanks Chalen for the advice), it is awesome in there the boys loved it--it has so many hands-on activities, it was great. I am excited to take Frontrunner and trax for later excursions. We played for about an hour, I was able to feed Garrett in the designated nursing area...so it was all good.

Next we went to see the movie: Wall-E, the boys (all of them, even Scott) loved it. It is a cute show and kept their attention.
After the movie we went and played in the fountain where the big boys were duly soaked, I brought towels but forgot the extra clothes, so they were a little soggy for the car ride home.

It was fun and we came home and had a nice relaxed evening together at the house until we hit the hay. I can handle these mini vacations!

*sigh*
So today was just not the most "up" of days...my kids (and I) have had a pretty emotional day if you know what I mean and we just had a lot of time-outs and squabbles. It gets to you after a while. We tried to appease them by going to McDonald's for ice cream cones and a chance to play on the indoor, air conditioned playground thinking we had a 'good' double-whammy, but it backfired and we ended up with two extra uneaten cones and Jorden complaining that he didn't have lunch and was hungry just after we had dinner...incidentally they have transformers toys in the Happy Meal, hence the sudden hunger. Cameron has lately been deprived of his sippy cup (his teeth are looking more and more buck-ish) and so his water intake has fallen short...his daily "poop" was a little more, okay a lot more dehydrated, shall we say, and there was a lot of grunting while he did his "hiding" (code word for pooping for him), well as he was "hiding" he was pushing his nose against the bunk bed ladder and ended up with a bloody nose--we are thinking it was from the intense straining to deliver the huge poop, this got Jorden's attention and the insistent call to Dad was met with a messy Cam (in two regards).
Garrett didn't really have any issues today except for maybe the scratch that mysteriously appeared right between his eyebrows, I swear you cut their little fingernails and they are long again the next day. He is 4 months old today, it is hard to believe that much time has passed! He is so dang cute, we can't imagine life without him. We might have to cut the wispy hairs on the crown of his noggin that are super long, today someone thought he was a girl...Scott quickly suggested the trim after that comment.
So while today is now over, I am glad to say that I actually cleaned the house this week and did laundry all by myself, and made dinner a couple times...I know pathetic to be happy about these mundane things, but man it has taken me a lot longer to re-coup after this third babe.

Bug Cars
Before the family party last Saturday we booked it down to Provo only to be 10 minutes late for a vintage VW car show...while Scott and the boys were barely able to contain themselves as they saw cool restored bugs driving past us on the freeway, we managed to sneak a peek at a few bugs and a couple buses. It was like Christmas morning for Scott and the whole time he was regretting that I talked him into selling our old bug. Look, don't touch...

family party
This past weekend was the Sorensen Family party at my parent's house, we had a yummy BBQ and the most delicious salads and desserts from everyone. A lot of people came this year, it was so fun to see all the little kids, our family is growing and all of my cousins are having babies! We swam and had a lot of fun!
we have 2 bathrooms again!
before...

after!

So as I mentioned before we re-did our upstairs commode...Scott did all the work, while I was at work, love these surprises :)
He learned to do tile and figured out how to make a concrete counter top, we put beaded board wainscott and trimmed out the mirror and added a nice new detail in the window. Yeah! Now to wait until we can redo the bathtub and it's surround (it is pink and BYU blue tile, painted over with a home kit that is now peeling--hence the pink race stripe around the shower). I think it turned out very nice and Scott is quite proud with the work, as he should be!

Camp Shawnee
So this is where we went to girls camp: Camp Shawnee, just north-west of Pineview Resevoir...beautiful place, with a great lodge and flushable toilets. But I had to post a map because I have never driven there and on my way Garrett and I got to take the "scenic route", we went all the way to Echo resevoir (you can see another little blob of blue on the map south-east of Pineview)--yeah I thought I had made it because I found a 'big lake' after coming up a big hill...NO, didn't find girls camp and ending up driving an extra 2 hours on my 45 minute trip to my destination.
It was very fun once we did find camp and I got there just in time to help with our turn feeding dinner to the entire camp...it is quite a task feeding 250 people. But it turned out awesome, we had Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Jamaican rice with pineapple rings and carrot & celery sticks, very tasty.
The girls all helped and it was way fun to be up there with them...they all fought over holding Garrett and I went on my first Snipe hunt (all growing up and going to girl's camp I pretended I knew what was going on)....we caught 4 of them :)
Anyway I got home about 1 am, and was able to drive straight home, in the dark.

4th of July and the 5th and 6th....
The 4th of July is a little iconic in my book, it is our second favorite holiday next to Christmas, it is steeped with fun traditions that we look forward to every year.
We went down to Provo where the patriotic feel is almost nauseating, but enticing at the same time. We started off our morning by going to the parade where you have to stake out a spot hours before hand--we volunteered Scott for this not-so-fun task...but he did great getting a nice shady spot in our old neighborhood. The kids wore red cowboy hats my dad bought for them (it was nice because they were easy to spot in the crowds). We sat through the parade and then went up to my mom's house and jumped in the pool--a favorite activity, in years past we have biked to the parade route so the jump in the pool after a hot, sweaty ride up the hill was always bliss. There was the usual BBQ with the oh-so-yummy marinaded chicken, baked beans, salad, chips and pop. Ali brought sweet rolls from Shirley's bakery, mmmm--they were delicious and I indulged a couple of times. The kids had a blast swimming, Jorden was in the water every second he could and Cameron had a good go-around, he is kind of crazy in the water and so he didn't get to stay in too long. After dinner we went out and lit fireworks and then watched the big Stadium fireworks from the neighbors yard. It was really fun, a long day, but fun to be with family.

He made a concrete counter top and put it in, I don't know if I am getting used to these "surprises" yet...although I should be used to them by now.
Sunday was busy for us, Scott and I both had to teach the lessons at church, not all that stressful but I was in the middle of my shifts at work...it made for a drowsy night at work and the pop machine and I became better acquainted because of it.
So until we do something else exciting....
