Not what I expected...

+=

What's the old adage? If life gives you lemons make lemonade, well what if with the "gift" of lemons there is also egg on your face...what do you do? Make Lemon Meringue Pie, of course!

My annual MS check-up last Wednesday went well, I was told I had a slight weakness in my left arm & leg, 'really', I thought as I drove home, upon further scrutiny it is possible...well due to insurance hoops I didn't have my MRI until yesterday (in the past I have had this done before and then the results are discussed at my check-up--last year I had no new lesions on my scan, (P.S. that is a good thing). So color me surprised when my neurologist himself calls me 20 minutes after I get home from having my MRI done and tells me I have 9 new lesions and 4 of those are active, meaning the disease is causing damage right now, he told me he was very concerned and wanted me to come in and start IV steroids immediately and to consider changing my medication regimen--and here I thought my daily shot of Copaxone would be my lifelong friend. This certainly threw my Tuesday plans out the window...instead of sitting in my hairdresser's chair being pampered, I was sitting in an infusion room having an IV placed in my wrist and having an hour-long steroid infusion and would have to come back the next two days and do it again and again.
HOly CrAp, nothing was going on, I wasn't having symptoms (that I was aware of) and although I did have a flare-up a month ago those symptoms went away after a week.
It certainly is humbling and has been a little scary, I don't want to think that I am on a path toward disability, I do NOT like hearing the word wheelchair from my Dr., maybe he tells that to all the girls...okay seriously I think in a small way he likes me, and he is just worried about me and my young family. So for now I have big decisions to make, the choices are riddled with not -so-desirable side-effects (one being a rare brain infection which usually causes death or serious disability with no known cure/treatment/prevention)--yeah!

So this is me, i Have a huge bump in my road and have to figure out a way to get over it. Think positive, right?! At the very least I could a make pie, or more realistically send Scott to the store for chocolate milk and cookies...

(by-the-way, Nat--if you read this, THANK YOU for the delicious cookies, they were devoured and enjoyed immensely, you know me all too well!)

M.O.M.

I sat at work over the weekend and was reading my 'work journal'...when I have a free moment I occasionally sit down and jot my feelings and what is going on my life, sometimes it is every week, other times I am filling in the details over the past year...a lot of my entries are with angst that I am NOT a "stay-at-home-mom", my very first entry was a year after I had Jorden and I marvelled that I was working full-time, at that point I had never imagined myself working after I had kids. My job has been a blessing and a curse, especially nowadays with the turbulent economy. I feel I have no room to complain, others have no jobs and our family has two. How dare I murmur...
But as I reflected over the years, being reminded of bad times and good times, I also remembered why I became a nurse and how good my job is. I may not be home as much as I like, but (as I have often told NICU moms) if I can't be home taking care of my own kids I am glad I can take care of someone else's baby when they are away from them.
I recently was able to go full-time, a very bitter-sweet decision. This last weekend I was mentally prepared to be there for 3 nights-in-a-row. Sunday, Mother's Day, I slept-in woke up to find my husband and kids anxious for me to open their cards and gifts. We got ready for church and I went over to Sacrament meeting and afterward hurried home to change into scrubs and go to work for the last night. I drove all the way into work, looked at the assignment book only to see "OFF" by my name! Oh man, I didn't check the phone or see that McKay had called, nor check the messages for the one that said, 'Have a Happy Mother's Day, you have been called-off.' OOPS, I left work and went back to catch the last of Relief Society, then a very laid-back evening with my family and calls to our moms. After a very good night's sleep I am enjoying my Monday...Being a mom is much easier when you are rested! ;)

Two of them?!

Cam: You will have 2 babies when you get fatter.
Me: What?!
Cam: Mothers have babies when they get fatter, but you are skinny so you only have one baby.
Me: You mean Garrett?
Cam: Yes, but you could have 100 babies.
Me: That is a lot of babies.
Cam: Yeah, that is a lot, so you will only have 3, that is a lot too.
Me--(speechless)
